Pinus parviflora 'Wabi Sabi'

'WS' was gifted to me in '93 as a no-name diminutive four year old seedling parviflora in a 4" pot by the outstanding Oregon plantsman and my dear friend Ed Wood. He knew I was just beginning my grafting career for bonsai and wanted to start me off with a notable conifer variety. Here it is in the first photo twenty years later, a mature 8' x 7' specimen with the same size 10 mm green needles it had grown when I received it. 'WS' can grow 10" apical growth in good years with 2-4" showing on the side branching. The needles on these long shoots can be as long as 18 mm and persist for two years while the four whorl branches at the ends of the 10" shoots still retain those 10 mm needles. In 10 years you can expect a tree 4'H x 3'W. Full sun.  Zone 5
